The Newah Organization of America celebrated Nepal Sambat “National New Year” 1136, commemorating national hero Sankhadhar Sakhwa on Sunday, December 06, 2015. NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha and Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United State Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki offered khada and flower bouquets on the picture of Shankhadhar Sakhwa the Founder of Nepal Sambat (Nepal Era) in presence of Pancha Kanyas.

More than two hundred fifty community members and friends were gathered at Potomac Community Center, Washington DC Metro area to enjoy this special National New Year Celebration. For the very first time in the United State of America festive celebration SUKUNDA Rally started at the courtyard of venue along with traditional Dhimay Baja and Bhusya, that was welcomed by beautiful Pancha Kanyas Miss Lujala Ranjit, Miss Bibhusa Pikha, Miss Prisha Shrestha, Miss Megha Joshi, and Miss Vedah Bishwakarma. Mrs. Haribaba Kayestha and Mrs. Vidya Pradhan offered the blessing tika and red kokha along with Sagun and traditional Samay Bajee that represents the symbols of good luck to all guests as they arrived in the evening.

Emcees Mrs. Babita Shrestha and Mr. Pushkar Prajapati invited NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha, Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United State Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki, Special Guest Speaker Mr. Rajiv Shanker Shresta, Special Guest Vice Mayor of Town of Indian Head, Maryland Mr. Kiran “Ron” Sitoula to take a seat and thanked all attendee for their participation. The Nepal Sambat 1136 celebration program officially began by lighting the Twadewa by Chief Guest His Excellency Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki presented by Mrs. Hari Baba Kayestha & Mrs. Vidya Pradhan. First Past President of NOA Mr. Beda Pradhan distributed Badge & Khada to all of guests at the dash supported by spouse of executive committee Mrs. Chitra Shrestha, Mrs. Samjhana Shrestha, Mrs. Chhaya Pradhan, Mrs. Sunita Shrestha and Mrs. Meeli Dhaubadel. And also Flower and Khada distributed to official guests to tribute honor on the picture of Shankhadhar Sakhwa the Founder of Nepal Sambat by Pancha Kanyas.

NOA President Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha extended warm greetings on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1136 and also mentioned that this organization is working together with all other organizations since it was established in 2001 and he further said Nepal Sambat is belongs to all Nepalese people and presented brief activities of earth quake relief and fund raising by NOA through out the year.
Chief Guest Nepalese Ambassador to the United State Dr. Karki has mentioned that the Government of Nepal had already declared Nepal Sambat as the National Era and he promised continued support on behalf of Nepal Government. He has congratulated Newah Organization of America for working very actively around Washington DC area serving the community.
Special Guest Speaker Mr.Shrestha presented in detail of Newah Community history, social and cultural activities in Sikkim, India. He also mentioned importance and necessity of preserving our own language and culture to our next generation. Special Guest Vice Mayor of Town of Indian Head, Maryland Mr. Sitoula express his support working together for the community and extended New Year greetings to all.

Dr. Maheswor Baidya presented power point Presentation on Nepal Sambat and Shankerdhar Sakhwa. He had highlighted on National Hero Sankhadhar Sakhwa and importance of Nepal Sambat history founded in 879 AD prior to beginning of Nepal Sambat Calendar 1135 years ago. NOA Past President Mr. Season Shrestha has highlighted Nepal Sambat Celebration by NOA chapters and other Newah Organizations all over the world. NOA presented certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Rajiv Shanker Shresta for his service to Newah Comminity in Sikkim, India.

Mrs. Babita Shrestha, 1st Vice President of NOA thanked all attendees, including the Chief Guest, Special Guests, Representatives from different Organizations, Volunteers, Media Representatives, Food Contributors, Cultural Program Performers as well as tireless effort of NOA Executive Committee members and their families. Talented Ms. Sichu Mali hosted the lively cultural program featuring songs and dances by local artists, including NOALC “ Newah Organization of America Language Center” students. Culture Program began with ‘Jhi Gu Kha Nepal Sambat’ live song performance by NOA EC family & Friends. The crowd enjoyed the Classical Dance Swetha Karunamaya by Senior Performer and Choreographer Mr. Yagya Man Shakya, Newah Dance Rajmati by Cine Actor and Performer Mr. Dilip Rayamajhi and Ms. Sunita Amatya, a nonstop various Songs performance by Lead Singer Mr. Ram Shrestha supported on drum by Mr. Raj Kapoor, Lead Guitarist of Trikaal Band Mr. Sujay Shrestha, by lead singer of Okely Band Mr. Srijan Tamrakar, also songs by Mr. Shiva Joshi and Mr. Sushil Lal Shrestha, Melodious Flute Played by TV Personalities and Performer Mr. Roshan Pratap Rana, Melodious Saxophone played by Mr. Sudin Amatya along with Mr. Sujay Shrestha and Mr.Divakar Dhaubhadel. A Tamangselo Dance by Ms. Nagin Rajbhandari, Classical Bajra Yogini Dance by Ms. Lochani Tara Shakya, Nepali Dance by Ms. Ejabella & Ms. Nora Shrestha and Newah Dance by Ms. Mila Shrestha & Ms. Mala Pradhan and ended the memorable entertainment nights.

Authentic traditional delicious home cooked Newah dinner buffet Bhoye was served to all participants. NOA extends New Year’s greeting to all Nepalese around the world and shares its best wishes for Nepal Sambat 1136, Nepal Era!!
